Irving Saladino

Biography

Saladino was born in Colón, Colón Province, Panamá. At the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships he finished second with a new South American indoor record of 8.29 metres. In 2006 he won five (Oslo, Rome, Zurich, Brussels, Berlin) out of six Golden League events in the same season, which earned him a total of $83,333. His only defeat was in Paris where he was second. With 8.56 metres achieved in May 2006 he became the South American record holder.

The 2006 world leader in the long jump, Saladino launched his 2007 season with the farthest leap of the year, 8.53m (−0.2 m/s wind), to capture the victory at the "Grande Prêmio Rio Caixa de Atletismo", held in Rio de Janeiro on May 13, 2007. On 24 May 2008, Saladino achieved a new personal record. During the FBK-Games in Hengelo, Saladino jumped with his first attempt to 8.73m (+1.2 m/s wind).

He carried the flag for his native country at the opening ceremony of the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On 30 August 2007 Saladino became the World Champion in Osaka. He led with the mark of 8.30 metres from his second attempt, then improved to 8.46 m, until the penultimate jump of the contest, when he was overtaken by Andrew Howe who set as mark 8.47 m. Saladino was able to earn the gold medal on the last attempt of the contest, in which he jumped 8.57 m.

Saladino competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, where he made history in Central America and his country, Panama, by winning the gold medal in the long jump competition on 18 August 2008, with a jump of 8.34 meters, giving Panama their first Olympic medal since the 1948 Summer Olympics, and their first gold ever.[1] This is also the first Olympic gold medal ever won in a men's event by an athlete from Central America.

On 21 August 2008 after winning Olympic gold, he arrived to Panama a national hero. Government offices and public schools were closed in honor of him so that public servants were able to attend a parade through Panama City. At a welcoming ceremony, Panamanian boxing legend Roberto Durán presented the Olympic gold medal to Irving Saladino for a second time. Martin Torrijos, President of Panama, announced a decree to name a sports facility in the Villa Deportiva in Juan Díaz after Saladino and granted a check to him for 50,000 U.S. dollars. Also, Ruben Blades performed the song "Patria" (Motherland) in front of thousands of cheering Panamanians.

Saladino qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics and he was chosen to be Panama's flag bearer.[2] He was eliminated early after underperforming due to injury.

Roberto Duran

BIOGRAPHY

In the world of boxing, fighters must be conscious of executing both victory in the ring and a performance that electrifies fans. Panamanian patriot and relentless boxing veteran Roberto Duran accomplished both effortlessly. Duran's rugged determination promised his opponents fierce physical battles, and guaranteed the audience a high energy, hard-hitting show.

Born in Guarare, Panama on June 16, 1951, Duran's amateur career was brief but promising. Propelled by the income a successful boxing career offered, 16-year-old Duran made the decision to turn professional. After a short adjustment period, he turned the tables on his older and more experienced opponents. It didn't take long for audiences and the media to recognize that Duran's raw, explosive talent was the stuff legends are made of. Though he lacked a press agent and professional representation, the newcomer consistently brought in packed houses. He had fought - and won - a streak of 21 professional fights without any specialized instruction when wealthy landowner Carlos Eleta bought his contract for a mere $300. Eleta then hired renowned trainers Ray Arcel and Freddie Brown to streamline Duran's relentless style and teach him cunning defensive strategies. On June 26, 1972, Duran's uninterrupted victories hit 30, 19 of which were KOs. That night, he defeated WBA Lightweight Champion Ken Buchanan in the 13th round at New York's Madison Square Garden. It was the 21-year-old's first world title. And he was just getting started.

In a career that spans five decades, Duran went on to be the WBC Lightweight Champion, WBC Welterweight Champion, WBA Light Middleweight Champion, WBC Middleweight Champion and WBA Junior Middleweight Champion. His lights-out right punch has stopped opponents from Esteban De Jesus, to Dave y Moore, to Sugar Ray Leonard. Seemingly endless stamina and persistent ferocity have pitted him against many of the world's best light and middleweight fighters, arguably making Roberto Duran one of the 10 best boxers of all time.

Baseball (English baseball), also called baseball or base ball, 1 is a team sport played between two teams of nine players each.
It is considered one of the most popular sports in Australia, Canada, Colombia, South Korea, Cuba, United States, Holland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, South Africa, Taiwan and Venezuela. The countries powers of the sport are concentrated in the Americas (North, Central, Caribbean) and in Asia, where the European and African continents laggards. But Europe has two good examples (Netherlands and Italy); and Africa only include the selection of South Africa, which has some good talent.
It is played on a large fully covered by natural or artificial turf field, with the exception of the area called Corridor line, where the offensive players race to reach the bases (located at the vertices of the area homer called diamond) and score well as the area of the caster (where the ground is a ridge of land).
The goal is to hit a ball with a bat (bat), moving through the field and run for the infield dirt trying to reach as many potential bases to turn the base from where he hit (home) and achieve both known and score the race while defensive players seeking a ball hit to eliminate the player who hit the ball or other racers before they reach first at any of the bases or get career scoring (see Rules for details the game).
The team scoring the most runs at the end of nine (9) episodes, called innings (or inputs) that lasts the meeting is who wins. If at the end of the nine regular innings a marker persists matched racing, the game runs as necessary to be a winner, according to the basic rules of the game there is a tie, allowed only amateurs and children's leagues to limit wear of the players.
Unlike other sports that are played with ball, such as football, which is also known as football, or basketball aka basketball; although "baseball" could be translated into Spanish, the custom of using their form of English root, could give the impression of a strange name phonetically: the translation should serpelotabase or bolabase, although in some Spanish-speaking countries will usually referred to colloquially as the ballgame or simply ball.

On the other hand, one of the characteristics that differentiate other baseball team sports, is that this defense is the one with the ball.
